StyleZeitgeist

/ 2011

"Five years ago I started stylezeitgeist.com, a website where people could come together and talk about fashion. I was frustrated that in my personal life I could not find anyone with whom I could share my love of fashion as a form of creativity and expression. Fashion for me has been more than just about putting clothes on or looking good. It reflected on the outside what I felt on the inside. And on the inside I felt that the world I saw around me was not the place it ought to be.

I never dreamed that in five years [stylezeitgeist.com] would bring together thousands of people. Through StyleZeitgeist we have cut out a corner of the fashion universe that stands apart from the bubbly hubbub of the mainstream. It has united many creative people, some of whom have worked on this magazine for very little or no financial reward at all, not because they had to, but because they wanted to. And that is the highest praise I could ever hope for.

The StyleZeitgeist magazine is the extension of the StyleZeitgeist project. The premise is the same, but the medium provides new possibilities of expression. Through printed text and images we can tell stories that cannot otherwise be told. We can share cultural knowledge and create something beautiful and meaningful. After all, a magazine is a creation in its own right.
It has been a long, arduous, and a pleasant journey and I hope it is worth your time.

Sincerely,
Eugene Rabkin"

StyleZeitgeist magazine was an idea born over Wiener Schnitzel at Blaue Gans in New York. What started with Florian saying "Wouldn't it be cool to make a mag?" was turned into reality by Eugene, who managed to pull together an amazing team of writers, photographers, fashion designers and artists to create a publication which is as much about style as it is about substance. The art direction and design of the magazine was done - often after hours and on long weekends - by Rachel Hunt with help from Peter Ainsworth.
