Protozoa
/ 2010
We were approached by Darren Aronofsky and Protozoa Pictures to make a short ident for the company so taking inspiration from the name, we looked into the microscopic world of 'Protozoa', and in collaboration with director Marcelo Garcia, this fantastic little film was born.
"Protozoa (from the Greek words, proto, meaning first, and, zoa, meaning animals) are a diverse group of single-cell organisms. Throughout history, protozoa have been defined as single-cell protists with animal-like behavior, e.g., movement."
Here's what Marcelo say's about the project:
"Hi-ReS! approached me with this small but very cool project for Darren Aronofsky. The idea was to come up with a way of using a microscope to reveal the name of Darren’s production company Protozoa, to sign any project coming out of his company.
We came up with the idea of having letterforms replicate as microorganisms do so I did some research on how these behave in live-cell digital footage and began to work.
The textures and typography were produced using a mix of footage shot under a microscope and animation in After Effects utilizing several different methods of adding grain that would convey the spirit they were shooting for, that of an instructional video from the seventies."
